Foot Care Tips: How to Treat Your Feet and Keep Them Feeling Soft and Smooth

Foot care tips

Taking proper care of your feet is more important than you might think. Check out the tips below to ensure you’re doing what you can to keep your feet in the best condition.

Foot care tips

Wash With Soap

It’s easy for fungus and bacteria to start growing between each toe and even underneath the toenail, so it’s completely necessary to make sure you’re washing your feet with soap and water. You should make sure you’re scrubbing your feet down with soap at least once a day to prevent any fungal infections while removing dirt, fuzz, and anything else that is on your feet.

Avoid Excess Moisture

While you don’t want the feet to feel too dried out, it’s important to prevent excess moisture to keep fungal infections from developing. When you’re wearing sneakers and your feet are sweating because you’re participating in some sort of physical activity, you’ll need to take your sneakers off, remove your socks, and then wipe off the sweat to prevent that moisture from staying on the skin. If you continue wearing damp socks, you may end up with athlete’s foot, an infection that can cause you to experience itching and discomfort.

Keep the Feet Hydrated

If you’re taking the time to moisturize your face, you should do the same for your feet. When feet lack moisture, they’re going to become dry, cracked, and rough. They won’t feel good or look as good in sandals and other open-toe shoes. A lack of moisture could even cause some pain when you’re walking on your feet because they’re so rough and dry, so make sure you’re using a moisturizer made specifically for the feet to make them feel much smoother and softer.

You don’t even need to purchase expensive moisturizers. Some people like to apply petroleum jelly to their feet and then wrap the feet in plastic wrap, keeping them covered for hours at a time to seal in that moisture.

Exfoliate Your Feet

Much like exfoliating the face to remove dead skin, you should do the same for your feet. If you don’t remove that top layer of skin, your feet are only going to continue to feel rough. There are several ways to quickly remove that top layer of skin, such as rubbing the feet with a pumice stone or even using a loofah while you’re in the shower. After gently exfoliating, be prepared to apply some moisturizer or lotion to the feet and then put on a pair of socks to keep them protected.

If you’d like to improve the effectiveness of your exfoliating session, consider mixing a teaspoon of sugar with a tablespoon of olive oil, creating your own exfoliating scrub to use on your feet. It works wonders and leaves the feet feeling smoother than before.

Pamper Yourself at Times

You may not have a lot of time to pamper yourself, but you should try to take some time out of your busy schedule to take good care of your feet. Start by soaking the feet in a basin with warm water for at least 15 minutes. After you’ve soaked your feet for several minutes, apply a generous amount of an antibacterial ointment.

Some people like to create their own mask for the feet. If you don’t know how to make a mask for your feet, simply mix one whole mashed banana with a tablespoon of lemon juice, mix well, and then rub a generous amount of the banana mixture on your feet. After leaving it on for some time, rinse it off, dry your feet off with a towel, and place some nourishing lotion on as a finishing touch.

Keep the Socks On

Try to wear socks a bit more often because they’re going to provide extra protection to your feet. They’re great to wear after you’ve applied cream or petroleum jelly to the feet because they’ll keep it all sealed in, allowing the skin to soak it in.

Choose the Right Shoes to Wear

If you want your feet to look and feel good, wear shoes that fit right and feel good. Don’t wear shoes that are too tight or too uncomfortable. Try to alternate between wearing heels and flats like these Avavon trainers from New Balance, because wearing heels too often could cause some permanent damage to your feet.

Take good care of your feet and they’ll feel soft and look better. These tips are simple enough to follow regularly.
