National Eligibility cum Entrance test is one of the most competitive examination which allows aspirants to get admission into top government medical college. The scorecard issued by NEET allows candidates to join various state & central government. A candidate must score anything above 550 out of 720 marks to secure a seat in a government medical institute.
In a paper of NEET, an aspirant gets 180 minutes to solve 180 questions where every question carries 4 marks. Biology has maximum weightage, i.e. 50 percent (90 questions) while 45 questions each asked from Physics and Chemistry. To score 600 marks, a candidate needs to mark 150 questions correctly and no incorrect answer. However, it seems unrealistic- so an aspirant must mark 160 questions in the paper with 95 percent accuracy to score 600 marks. Thus, scoring 600 marks in the NEET is a game of speed and accuracy. Making it a Herculean task, which has been accomplished by around 2500 to 3000 candidates every year. So, YES, IT IS POSSIBLE to score 600 and more marks in the NEET exam.
To make this possible, you need to maximize your score in Biology as it is always easier to mark an MCQ correctly for Biology in given amount of time as compared to other two subjects. While marking the correct option, make a double check and then proceed to the next question. Then, approach chemistry with a mindset to figure out the answer with minimum calculation as well as minimizing the invested time on a question. And finally, approach Physics as it will take up your time in calculation and you will risk losing easy questions from other subjects.
Alternatively, you can also start with your strongest subject and move on to other subjects in similar fashion. But that will require a lot of practice on your part to cover the entire paper with ease.
Another important point to keep in mind is that you must browse through each section looking for the easy and scoring questions, this will enable you to boost your confidence and speed at the early stage of the paper, providing you freedom to devote time on complex problems which requires deep thinking or lengthy calculation. You can practice time management while writing mock papers or selecting a set of problems and attempting them in a fixed time window. Accuracy is paramount and hence, attempt only those problems which you are confident about, else you will be penalized for every incorrect attempt and which will eventually lower your overall score.
Memory-based questions or the questions where you do not need to pick the pen are the crucial points for an aspirant targeting 600+ marks. These problems have to be solved as quickly as possible (in less than 20-30 seconds); as you are getting one minute per questions in the examination. Making sure that the answers to these problems are marked correctly has be done in less than 5 seconds. To score 600+ marks, you have to utilize every second of the exam duration and that too with full efficiency.
As the famous quote by John Lewis says, “If not us, then who? If not now, then when?” This was the attitude of all those thousands of aspirants who score more than 600 and they gave everything for it; and so, should you.
